Ms. Alfrita Jones serves as the Deputy in the Opportunity, Diversity, and Inclusion Branch (MPE) for the Marine Corps. The mission of MPE is to develop and administer equal opportunity policy, programs, and processes for the Commandant of the Marine Corps, and the liaison/advisor regarding personnel matters, policy, recruitment, and retention as they relate to military equal opportunity and diversity.
Ms. Jones has oversight for the development and implementation of diversity and inclusion initiatives as directed by higher headquarters and locally developed initiatives. She is responsible for the development of diversity and inclusion policies and programs that address the career life-cycle of a Marine from accessions to separation or retirement. She is further responsible for oversight of military Equal Opportunity which addresses prohibited activities, and Outreach events to connect with members of underserved communities. She is responsible for reviewing data to track and report progress towards increasing diverse representation in the officer Corps.
Prior to serving as the Deputy of MPE, she served as an enlisted Marine in the United States Marine Corps. Her active duty career began in September 1980, where she attended boot camp at Parris Island, South Carolina. Her assignments throughout her career included assignments stateside and overseas. During her second overseas assignment, she deployed to Thailand for Operation Cobra Gold. Her last assignment was as the Equal Opportunity Advisor for Training and Education Command aboard Quantico, Virginia.
Her education includes a Bachelor of Science in Social Psychology, University of Maryland and a Masters in Human Relations from Oklahoma University, Executive Certificate in Diversity and Inclusion, Georgetown University. She is a graduate of the Equal Opportunity Advisors Course at the Defense Equal Opportunity Management Institute (DEOMI) in addition to other professional military education schools.
