The presentation will provide the audience with an overview of current Army research priorities and describe programs used to sponsor research and enable partnerships.  It will also provide guidance on how best to approach Army research organizations, and introduce opportunities for direct student engagement.  The objective is for the audience to have an understanding of opportunities with the Army, and increase confidence in how to pursue them.  The desired outcome is to expand and diversify participation in Army research efforts, to provide a robust ecosystem of institutions and people to support the Army’s need to operationalize science for transformational overmatch.

This session will discuss Research and Development opportunities with DoD agencies, including Broad Agency Announcements (BAAs), the Small Business Innovative Research (SBIR) and Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) Programs, and Rapid Innovation Fund (RIF).  It will also discuss opportunities to provide developmental assistance to Protégé firms under the DoD Mentor-Protégé Program (MPP).  It will also discuss pursuing full and open competed contracting actions for DoD.  Attendees will gain a better understanding of contracting and R&D opportunities with DTRA and DoD.

In this session, we will talk about the Boren Awards Scholarships and Fellowships and the benefits that studying a less commonly taught language will have on a future job search in the federal government. We will describe who is eligible for the award and go over the benefits of being a Boren recipient when applying for jobs within the government, including but not limited to the Department of Defense. We will list the preferred countries and languages that Boren is targeting and explain how students of all levels of a language are welcomed to apply. After the short presentation, we will have a question-and-answer session during which students can ask about countries and languages they are interested in studying and different job opportunities in the federal government. By the end of the information session, the students will have a better understanding of the program and how Boren can give them a head start when looking for careers in the federal government.

The Science, Mathematics, and Research for Transformation (SMART) is a scholarship-for-service program that offers full tuition, paid internships, monthly stipends and more to students pursuing STEM disciplines.  This“student-focused” session will provide a background on the scholarship opportunity with specific focus on scholar benefits, the application process, and the scholar experience as it relates to internships and employment with the Department of Defense.

Roberts, one of the Federal Government’s top leaders in the field of Program Management, Acquisition/Logistics, and Digital Transformation Technology at the Defense Logistics Agency (DLA) at Fort Belvoir, VA.  He will share Insights and Tips on seeking careers with the Federal Government and the DLA.  He will also provide information on how and where to apply for jobs, internships, and other career opportunities with his agency. You will receive information on how to apply for job opportunities in DLA and the Federal Government.
